  • Native prickly-pear cactus, Opuntia drummondii, attracts native bees.
  • Each flower visited by bees will develop into an edible prickly pear by late summer.
  • Opuntia grows on the banks of the James River, near Jamestown Island.

    • We are part of the web of life. People may think they can exist outside of the web, but we are learning, more and more each year, that once the systems fall out of balance the consequences are often unforeseen and irreversible There is a reason why some of those regions of the world where civilizations began have become deserts. Carson was brilliant and I always learn from reading her insights. ❤ ❤ ❤
