Silent Sunday: Summer’s End

Seashore mallow, Kosteletzkya pentacarpos (K. virginica)

“Our lives have ebbs and flows. Ends and beginnings are illusions. Starting over is nothing more than recognizing The Pause before picking up your thread and continuing to weave your own story.”

    • Actually, Eliza, its ID found me! Plant Delights nursery in NC sends me an email most everyday, advertising 6-8 plants. And one day this week, this beautiful flower was featured in their email! I was so excited! I had hoped to post a Saturday Six yesterday and tell the story, and just got tied up with other things until it was too late to do so. I will keep checking back at this spot and hope to catch the seed pods opening in a few weeks. I have a few native Hibiscus types in our yard already, but am not sure whether I have a spot with the damp and the sun that this beauty requires. It is growing in sand along the path to a beach along the river. The problem with trying to grow sensitive native plants- and I know you deal with this, too, Eliza- is that most have very specific conditions where they thrive. If you try to grow them at home, and can’t give them the conditions they need, well, you have just wasted that genetic material. I am likely going to spread their seeds to some other areas along the river where they will have a chance to thrive. ❤ ❤ ❤
